Volunteerism
Hyatt associates around the world are vibrant, engaged members of the many communities we serve.
They are parents who coach youth sports. They are civic leaders who serve on community boards. They are volunteers who lend a hand wherever and whenever their neighbors need it most. Hyatt associates are part of our local tapestry.
Through Hyatt Community Partners, our year-round volunteer program, we empower our associates to use their energy and passion to make an impact in their own backyards. From volunteering in local schools to cleaning up local parks, our associates make a real impact in their communities throughout the year.
In June 2011, Hyatt launched our inaugural global volunteer initiative, a month-long volunteer effort encouraging our associates to improve their local communities. From Shanghai to Seattle, this annual event is our way of giving back to the many communities that we call home.
To measure our impact, the new Hyatt Community Track database allows our properties around the world to individually track their charitable giving and volunteer efforts to ensure progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
Highlights from Our Global Volunteer Initiative
Environmental Sustainability
Shanghai, China
A key element to foster thriving communities is caring for and protecting our environment. Associates at Grand Hyatt Shanghai recently came together to keep their community clean by collecting rubbish along the bank of the Huangpu River, Shanghai’s largest river, as part of Hyatt’s month-long global volunteer initiative.

Economic Development & Investment
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
New Orleans was forever affected by 2005's Hurricane Katrina, but the Lower Ninth Ward was among the worst hit, with 4,000 homes destroyed. The Make It Right Foundation continue to rebuild the area, and last month its team, along with our associates from Hyatt Regency New Orleans, dedicated time and resources to improving the area's "eco-playground" – one of the most technically advanced playgrounds in the country.
Education & Personal Advancement
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Nearly 400 Hyatt volunteers from the corporate headquarters, Park Hyatt Chicago, Hyatt Regency Chicago and Hyatt Regency McCormick Place worked together to beautify a local public school. Painting, landscaping and creating murals, the Hyatt team helped to make a more vibrant learning environment for the students of Pulaski International School.

Health & Wellness
Goa, India
Nearly 1,200 elderly people in Goa live in old age homes. These homes and the services they offer are usually free and therefore rely heavily on donations and external support. Associates of Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa spent an afternoon at the Old Age Home at Majorda offering companionship to the elderly while filling the air with the sound of old Goan music strummed from the guitar and the mandolin of the hotel's serenaders.

Environmental Sustainability
Seattle, Washington, USA
It takes over 100 million gallons of water per day to fulfill the needs of the communities that drink the waters of the Cedar River. The forest acts as a kind of natural water filtration system. As a result, the Cedar River is one of the few rivers in the United States used for drinking water without requiring specially fabricated filtration. Pipelines route water to the Seattle area from the western edge of the protected watershed. Recently, to support the environmental pillar of Hyatt Thrive, a team from Hyatt Regency Bellevue, along with friends and associates from Grand Hyatt Seattle and Hyatt at Olive 8, removed invasive plants and bushes at the Cedar River Watershed so that native plant species could be restored to the area. These activities will also help to restore the health of the ecosystem to this very important stretch of water.
