Environmental Sustainability
Goals & Progress
We recognize that environmental sustainability is a journey and not a short-term endeavor. Achieving measurable results requires a conscious effort and a healthy mix of focus, innovation, commitment and optimism. And while we are proud of our accomplishments, we realize that there is still much work to be done.
We have set aggressive, measurable goals for 2015 to reduce energy and water use, greenhouse gas emissions and waste sent to landfills; and we track our progress with Hyatt EcoTrack. This web-based tracking tool gathers monthly data from our properties to help us benchmark our performance and drive improvement.
In 1994, we began tracking energy and water consumption in our managed, full-service hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, and introduced our tracking system to our managed, full-service hotels around the world in 2004. In 2009, we expanded our tracking efforts to incorporate greenhouse gas emissions.
This depth of information has enabled us to set our environmental goals, track our progress and identify new opportunities for improvement.
Energy
Goal: Reduce energy consumption per square meter by 25 percent
Water
Goal: Reduce water consumption per guest night by 20 percent
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Goal: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions per square meter by 25 percent
Waste
Goal: Reduce waste sent to landfills per guest night by 25 percent
*These reductions are the result of on-going efforts to make our operations more efficient through measures that include, among other things, water and energy efficient equipment and upgrades, diligent management of resource consumption as well as, in some instances, shifting certain operations, such as laundry, to outside vendors.
