Environmental Sustainability
Global Initiatives
Hyatt focuses on educating and engaging our associates in positive environmental action and implementing sustainable practices to reduce resource consumption, carbon emissions and waste at our properties. Through our global initiatives, we provide our associates and hotels with the necessary resources to be catalysts for positive change.
Green Teams
At Hyatt, it is our people that make the difference. That is why we empower our thousands of Green Team members around the world to be positive catalysts for change in our hotels and the communities that we call home. As Hyatt’s local “green” ambassadors, these teams implement a wide range of environmental initiatives that, when woven together, create a tapestry of global action and impact.

My Green Touches
In 2011, Hyatt introduced My Green Touches, a program that incorporates five simple sustainable actions into every job function. With this company-wide program, we begin the process of integrating environmental sustainability across every facet of our daily operations.
Hyatt Earth Training Program
It is our goal to create a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility among our more than 85,000 associates around the world. Our Hyatt Earth Training program is a series of interactive workshops that leads associates to identify specific opportunities to reduce waste and conserve water and energy at their properties and in their own homes.
Meet and Be Green
At Hyatt, we believe that the meetings in our hotels not only serve as occasions to gather and to build relationships, but also as opportunities for our guests to demonstrate their commitment to preserving our environment. Within our hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, the Meet and Be Green program embraces this opportunity by encouraging meeting planners to commit to a greener meeting. By following our 10 simple steps, our guests will save 3 percent off their bill as our way of recognizing their shared commitment to the environment. After all, we are all guests on this planet.

Sustainable Building Design
We have developed Sustainable Design Criteria to guide the development of our new and renovated properties around the world. These standards address the siting, design and construction of our buildings to help us reduce waste, conserve energy and water, incorporate environmentally preferred materials and protect our indoor environments.
Responsible Purchasing
Hyatt has made a commitment to identify and purchase more sustainable products and materials for our properties around the world. While we recognize that we still have a great deal of work to do in this area, our progress includes:
- Amenity bottles made from 100 percent recycled plastic and key cards made of 50 percent recycled plastic in our hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean that keep over 160 tons of plastic out of landfills each year
- Healthy, sustainably sourced menu options at our properties in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, including cage-free eggs, Rainforest Certified coffee in guest rooms, free-range beef hamburgers and seafood choices that adhere to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Guidelines
- Low-impact cleaning supplies in approximately 90 percent of our managed hotels
- Reusable cloth laundry bags and baskets in place of plastic bags at most of our international properties, and energy-efficient lightbulbs in place of incandescent bulbs in over 90 percent of our managed hotels
- Locally sourced products that are sensitive to local culture at Hyatt Spas around the world
Linen Reuse Program
Conserve, Hyatt’s towel and linen reuse program, invites our guests to decline or reduce the frequency of linen changes during their stay. Together, through these actions, we help to preserve and protect our natural environment by reducing our consumption of energy, water and chemicals.
Green Key Eco-Rating
In 2010, our managed, full-service properties in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean began participating in the Green Key Eco-Rating Program, which provides these properties with an opportunity to demonstrate environmental progress using a uniform scorecard that is widely recognized within our industry. Nearly 100 of our hotels have earned Green Key ratings; and the following five properties have won the prestigious 5-Key status:
- Grand Hyatt Denver
- Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach
- Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe
- Hyatt Regency New Brunswick
- Hyatt Regency Vancouver
